Long ago, Laotian princes would journey to the top of Phou Vao hill to fly kites. With the tails of their toys dancing in swirling winds, the young men practised the art of spatial meditation. Today the spot is known as “the hill of kites”. It’s here you’ll find Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao.
Blessed with a hilltop vantage point, Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao overlooks treetops, mountains and the Unesco World heritage site of Luang Prabang. Just a short ride away, the city is treasured for its striking architecture and laidback feel.
Serenity sets in fast here. An open-air reception greets guests, and leads you via a wooden walkway towards a library with an open fire and garden. We approach the outdoors with reverence and you’re sure to feel it too. Our guests are often to be found sitting on one of our many wooden benches, soaking up the silence and the view.
A deep-rooted respect for nature extends to the design of our rooms. You’ll find bougainvillea vines and papyrus plants on the outside, while rosewood furnishing and local fabrics adorn the interior.
If you’re looking to break the peace, the hotel offers an array of invigorating activities. Join a cookery class, or take a tuk tuk into Luang Prabang and get lost between the city’s temples and markets. You can even accompany the hotel staff in a ritual of almsgiving, in which you offer food to a procession of local monks.
And yet we wouldn’t blame for you staying put. Our freshwater infinity pool flows off a cliff edge, the most striking spot to swim in the warm afternoon sun. We're particularly proud of our award-winning Mekong Spa, consistently ranked as one of the best in Asia. Indulge in a custom treatment dreamed up using botanical ingredients from organic gardens and farms. All beside a beautiful, blooming lily pond—very still, very calm and very quiet.
