Onboard Experience
What is the check-in process for passengers?
Upon arrival at the station, passengers drop off their luggage with Belmond staff for tagging and storage in the guest’s Restaurant Car, are escorted to the check-in desk to present their train ticket and passport, and are then guided by train staff to their assigned table.
Are there various menu options available?
Yes, there are different dining options available allowing each passenger to select their preference. Please contact us in advance to arrange alternative dining options, including vegetarian and children's meals.
Are there tour guides for non-English speaking passengers?
All tours are provided in English and Spanish. However, for groups of 14 or more we can offer the tour in the language that you require (Portuguese, French or Italian) with advance notice.
Can I choose which direction my seat is facing?
Unfortunately, guests cannot select their seat direction due to the layout of the tables. Each table will have one or two seats forward facing and one or two seats backwards facing.
What is the dress code on the Hiram Bingham?
The dress code is smart casual, reflecting the elegant ambience of the journey, and guests are encouraged to embrace an informal explorer-style look that blends celebration with exploration.
Booking & Policy
What is the ticket policy for children?
Children aged 0–2 years travel free when held in a parent’s arms; if an independent seat is required, a 50% discounted ticket applies. Children aged 3–11 years receive a 25% discount on the purchase of tickets.
What luggage is included with the travel ticket?
The travel ticket includes transport for the passenger and one piece of hand luggage (one bag or backpack) weighing up to 5 kg / 11 lb and with maximum dimensions of 62 linear inches / 157 cm (height + length + width).
How do you transport passenger luggage?
There is no special coach for luggage. We suggest that passengers bring only items necessary for a day trip. An elegant Hiram Bingham travel bag will be provided.
What currency and payment methods are accepted on board?
The operating currency is the US Dollar. On-board payments can be made in cash (US Dollars or Peruvian Sol) or by Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Belmond Gift Cards are not accepted on board.
Can I smoke?
Smoking is not permitted on board.
Are pets allowed on board?
Pets are not allowed on board.
Accessibility
What health and safety measures are available on board?
Supplemental oxygen is available if needed, staff are trained in first aid, security personnel are present on board and emergency phone access is provided.
What accessibility accommodations are available on the Hiram Bingham train?
The train can accommodate passengers with slight walking difficulties if accompanied by an able-bodied escort, which must be noted at the time of booking; wheelchairs cannot be used on board but may be stored in vestibules, and access dimensions include 50 cm bathroom corridors, 65 cm corridors between tables, and a 55 cm main door width.
