Britannic Explorer FAQs

Journey

What is included in the price?

A Britannic Explorer luxury train journey includes comfortable suite cabin accommodation, daily table d'hôte meals, and a selection of alcoholic and other beverages. Onboard entertainment and outdoor experiences are also included in the package, with sightseeing excursions, as shown in your itinerary and booking confirmation. Please note that the Britannic Explorer’s booking prices do not include insurance or gratuities.

Can you help arrange transportation before or after my journey?

On the final night of your luxury train journey, our crew can reserve taxis/limousines for onward transfers, for example to the airport from London Victoria Station. For more details, please speak to the Train Manager. In advance of travel, our Reservations team can pre-book transfers from your place of stay to the station for departure. Kindly note that guests staying in a Grand Suite can enjoy complimentary transportation before and after their journey.

What is the check-in procedure?

Britannic Explorer departs from London Victoria Station. Check-in takes place at the Belmond reception at the top of platform 2 in the station. We request that you arrive at the time indicated in your final itinerary to allow for check-in formalities, allowing us enough time to transfer your luggage to the train.

What do I need to know regarding passports and visas?

All visitors from overseas must be in possession of a current passport, with a minimum validity of 6 months beyond your journey stay date — applicable to both adults and children. Additional months added to any new passport where the document was renewed prior to its previous expiry date may not count towards the minimum of 6 months required. Depending on which country issues your passport, you may need a visa for entry into the UK. Please check with your travel agent or government agency before travelling. We would also note that security and immigration checks are likely to be increased, adding time to your journey at entry and exit points within Europe and the UK, so we would recommend you allow extra time at these points.

Will I need travel insurance?

We recommend you arrange suitable insurance to cover personal belongings, cancellation/interruption, medical and luggage. Details of cancellation policies can be found in our booking conditions.

Onboard Experience

What do I wear onboard Britannic Explorer?

The atmosphere on board is relaxed and convivial; informal attire is welcome during the day. For dinner, we request smart casual attire and for gentlemen to wear a jacket. The final evening of your journey is a chance to showcase your smart and elegant wear (this will be highlighted in the in-room itinerary provided). For our off-board excursions, we recommend preparing for the variable British weather by wearing comfortable shoes and bringing a jacket or layers suitable for the season. If you’ve chosen activities outside of the regular journey itinerary, please make sure you have appropriate clothing.

Does the Britannic Explorer have Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi is available throughout the train, however, the connection may be intermittent due to some remote locations of the journey.

What luggage can I bring on board?

Cabins have limited space; therefore, we recommend each guest travels with one suitcase, a carry-on bag and a garment bag.

Are there laundry and pressing facilities on board?

Our stewards are happy to assist with pressing garments. Although there are no laundry facilities onboard, laundry services can be arranged for extended stays.

Are there electric plug sockets in my cabin?

There are electrical outlets in all cabins. Electricity in the UK runs on 220/240 volts. You may wish to bring an adaptor for electrical appliances.

Can Britannic Explorer accommodate special dietary preferences?

Special diets can be accommodated by our Chef. Please be sure to tell us in advance of any allergies, food-related or not. We will do our best to cater for special dietary requirements, such as vegetarian, vegan etc, provided a detailed request has been made at the time of booking. If a special request has not been made, the chefs will endeavor to prepare a dish with the ingredients available on board. We do, however, regret that we are unable to provide meals requiring strict religious observance in preparation.

Booking & Policy

Are pets permitted onboard?

For safety reasons, pets are not permitted aboard Britannic Explorer. However, if you are travelling with an assistance dog, please contact reservations to discuss further.

Are children permitted onboard?

Children are welcome to join us aboard Britannic Explorer. Infants under the age of two at the time of departure travel free. Parents must provide their own food and a bassinet for sleeping. Given the space constraints of the onboard accommodation, we always recommend booking a Grand Suite for the comfort of those travelling with an infant. The atmosphere aboard Britannic Explorer is geared towards our adult guests. Therefore, it is at the Train Manager’s discretion that children may accompany their parents in the bar and restaurant cars. Please contact our reservations team to discuss full details and train journey suitability.

Can I smoke onboard?

In accordance with UK Law, smoking is not permitted anywhere on-board Britannic Explorer. This also includes electronic cigarettes/vaping.

It is advised, however, that you consult your doctor or physician for requirements based on your travel itinerary, or for any personal health recommendations relating to your journey.
