L’histoire du domaine remonte à 2 500 ans, jusqu’aux Étrusques, une période florissante de commerce et d’essor artisanal. Au cœur de la propriété se dressait autrefois un château médiéval, édifié en 998 pour tirer parti de ses panoramas exceptionnels. La famille aristocratique Bargagli a ensuite façonné le site au XIXᵉ siècle, avant que des lignées nobles ne perpétuent son prestige au XXᵉ siècle, attirant une clientèle internationale d’élite.
C’est à cette époque que le réalisateur Luchino Visconti en a pris les rênes, insufflant au domaine une touche de grandeur hollywoodienne encore perceptible aujourd’hui.
