Some 3500 years ago, Arawak explorers from South America discovered a 20-mile stretch of pristine sand in the Caribbean Sea and dubbed the land Malliouhana, meaning ‘arrow-headed sea serpent’ in reflection of the island’s shape. They established farms, villages and ceremonial sites before European settlers arrived, with the Spanish renaming it Anguilla.
In 1984, Linda and Charles Hickox were struck by the beauty of Maundays Bay in Anguilla during a boating trip and opened Pimms restaurant, a fine dining destination, followed by the rest of the resort, naming it Cap Juluca. The resort soon became an icon of the island, attracting the international jet-set with its reputation for authenticity.
