Supporting the Jaguars of Iguassu

Unfolding across 185,000 hectares of protected forest, Iguaçu National Park is home to extraordinary biodiversity – including the majestic jaguar. Recognising our place within this remarkable ecosystem, Hotel das Cataratas is deeply committed to protecting the park and its native wildlife. To date, the hotel has donated more than nine million reais towards conservation initiatives that help safeguard this unique habitat.

Among the projects the hotel proudly supports is Onças do Iguaçu, a vital jaguar conservation initiative working within Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. Through scientific research, community education and awareness-raising, the project helps local communities coexist more harmoniously with jaguars. Thanks to these efforts, the jaguar population in the region has grown from just 11 individuals in 2009 to around 25 today.

Hotel das Cataratas plays an active role in supporting this work. The hotel hosts the conservation team during intensive field campaigns and purchases handmade goods from local community projects connected to the initiative – helping both wildlife and people thrive.

To highlight the ongoing ‘Jaguars of Iguassu’ project we’ve created a cocktail with organic cachaça, tangerine, sugar and passion fruit – a visual play on the jaguar’s spots. We’re also donating sales of our mascot Avati, an adorable jaguar plushie available at our signature boutique.
