Parley For The Oceans

We partner with Parley for the Oceans on an initiative focused on ocean conservation, education and community engagement. The program trains Ocean Guardians and supports reef mapping through Map2Adapt. Together, Belmond and Parley aim to redefine luxury hospitality as a platform for environmental action, honoring nature and empowering communities to protect marine ecosystems for future generations. As of August 2025, we have performed 6 coral mapping sessions which translates to 56 employees trained, 17 hours of education and 18 coral reef sites mapped.

Local Craftsmanship

In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint during the renovation process, 80% of the materials used in the resort’s redesign and construction are of Mexican origin, from steel and concrete to structural wood.

Tejedoras De Sueños

In the spirit of community and sustainability, Maroma proudly partners with a group of women from the vulnerable community of El Peten in Playa del Carmen. These talented artisans transform textile remnants from our hotel into charming macaw-shaped plush toys, lovingly crafted in honor of Adelita, a vibrant red macaw who has graced our hotel for over two decades. You'll discover these unique amenities at our Kids Club, a testament to both our commitment to reducing waste and supporting local empowerment.

Bee School

This impactful program is designed to educate younger generations on the critical importance of bee conservation, biodiversity loss and climate change. Led by dedicated Maroma team members, this initiative involves establishing a meliponary at a partnering school. Over the course of a year, Maroma collaborators impart essential knowledge and practical skills in meliponiculture to the students, empowering them to actively maintain and nurture their school's meliponary. This hands-on experience fosters a deep understanding of these vital pollinators and inspires future generations to become advocates for environmental stewardship.

Authentic Mexican Textiles

Maroma partnered with Collectiva Concepción on designing the employee uniforms. Collectiva Concepción is a socially conscious brand rooted in Mexican design that promotes local artisan communities. In their stunning textiles created for Maroma, Concepción Collectiva used local materials for the fabrics to bring authenticity to the uniforms. The result is clothing that celebrates Mexican diversity, culture and heritage. The uniforms are made of cotton linen and manta, which is known as the most traditional fabric in Mexico as well as entirely ecological. Each uniform has its unique story to tell with thoughtful details, such as unraveled fabric from the San Felipe de los Herreros community in Michoacán and embroidery from women in communities in Chiapas.
