Dunster Castle from Penzance

Be our guest

Journey to Somerset aboard the luxurious British Pullman train. Course along the longest heritage railway in England and visit magnificent Dunster Castle.

Your adventure begins as you board British Pullman’s gleaming vintage carriages. Settle into your plush armchair and admire the authentic art deco surroundings. Your liveried steward serves a Bellini cocktail at a table laid with crisp linen and bespoke china. As you sip your drink, relax and admire the changing views of the West Country through your picture windows. A delicious brunch is served as you journey towards the West Somerset Railway, Britain’s longest standard gauge heritage railway. At Norton Fitzwarren, British Pullman leaves the mainline and travels through the lush Somerset countryside to Bishops Lydeard, the southern terminus of the West Somerset Railway. Here coaches are waiting to transfer you to the National Trust’s Dunster Castle (approx 30 mins), perched on a hill overlooking Dunster village. You will have free time to explore the house, subtropical gardens, watermill and village before making your way to Dunster Station to join a heritage ‘West Somerset Railway’ steam hauled service which takes you back to reboard the British Pullman. A glass of chilled champagne greets your arrival as you settle back into your seat. The train then wends its way back along the 22-mile heritage line, rejoining the mainline once again at Norton Fitzwarren. A gastronomic four-course dinner is served, together with our sommelier’s choice of wine. Sit back and admire the picturesque views as the train makes the return journey to Cornwall.
