  • All meals aboard the ship: buffet breakfast, lunch and table d'hôte dinner featuring both eastern and western menus

  • Onboard activities such as expert lectures and presentations, longyi-tying demonstrations, sunrise yoga sessions, meditation classes and cookery demonstrations

  • Early almsgiving ceremony and village tour
  • Visit to Ananda temple and a torchlight tour of a rarely-seen pagoda

Check in at Belmond’s private jetty in Shwe Kyet Yet village, before the ship sets sail during lunch.

In the afternoon disembark for an excursion to Mandalay, visiting historic sites and learning about traditional Burmese arts.

Toast the sunset with a champagne cocktail at the U Bein Bridge. Dine on a selection of Asian and Western dishes in the elegant Restaurant.

Combine an early yoga session with a refreshing drink from the Healthy Juice Bar for a revitalising start to the day.

Participate in an early almsgiving ceremony at a small pagoda before experiencing the bustle of the village near our jetty.

The ship then sails to Ava, where you alight for a tour of the ancient capital. Choose to explore by horse and cart. Alternatively opt for a guided or independent bike ride.

Spend the afternoon sailing to Bagan and enjoy a range of onboard activities. These include a lecture on Myanmar culture, a demonstration of how to tie a longyi, and a fortune-telling session with an astrologer.

This morning you may wish to visit the Observation Deck to enjoy the views as we sail into Bagan. Spot fishermen casting their nets and local boats carrying passengers from one bank to the other as the ship circles and drops anchor near the Taung Be village jetty.

As you disembark in Old Bagan, there are two optional morning tours to choose from: exploring timeless Bagan where you visit a complex of pagodas which offer a fascinating insight into Bagan’s history. Or, you may choose to visit a family compound and observe the making of ponyegyi (fermented soybean paste) and explore the lanes of the bustling morning market at Nyaung-U.

This afternoon visit Ananda, one of Bagan’s most magnificent temples, then explore a rarely visited pagoda by torchlight. End the day watching the sun set over the plains.

Dine under the stars on the Observation Deck at our Road to Mandalay Grill. A traditional marionette performance rounds off this memorable day.

Tonight the ship anchors mid-river in Bagan.

After breakfast on board choose from a selection of tour options. Enjoy a rural excursion to Salay, a small town down river from Bagan with old colonial architecture.

Alternatively choose to stay the day in Bagan, with lunch on board, and join our other local excursions. Travel in time-honoured style with your own horse and buggy through Old Bagan. Or, join our staff in Taung Be village to participate in one of Belmond’s Social Contribution Projects.

This afternoon, continue exploring Bagan with a visit to Nagayon Temple and visit Seinnyet, a small complex of temples with murals. En route back to the jetty, visit a small temple near the river to participate in an exclusive Belmond experience – a magical candle lighting ceremony.

Tonight, enjoy a sumptuous dinner on the Observation Deck. The ship remains mid-river at Bagan.

Start the day with the morning adventure of your choice. Explore the temples of Old Bagan and take a sunrise temple tour or visit a village community project. Alternatively set off on a spellbinding hot-air balloon ride, available at an additional supplement.

A range of on board activities are available as the ship sails towards Mandalay, whether listening to a cultural lecture or indulging in the spa. Relax by the pool on the Observation Deck or work out in the gym. Sample local infusions and delicacies in our Burmese Tea Shop, and learn how to dress in a traditional Myanmar sarong.

This evening a gourmet dinner is served on board.

During the morning’s sailing take part in a range of activities, such as a sunrise yoga session, a meditation class or a Myanmar cookery demonstration. Enjoy a presentation by our onboard doctor as he discusses his local community projects.

Arrive in Mingun and choose from two fascinating tours. Discover the nearby historical sites with our guide or join a walk through a rural village, engaging with the locals.

In the evening you are invited to wear a traditional sarong to our vibrant Longyi Cocktail Party on the Observation Deck.

Shwe Kyet Yet

Spend the day on an excursion into the mountains and the former colonial hill station of Maymyo (Pyin Oo Lwin). Board a traditional horse and carriage for a ride around the town. Look out for the striking colonial architecture visible in many of the country cottage homes.

Visit the vibrant local markets and enjoy a stroll through the National Kandawgyi Botanical Gardens.

Return to the ship berthed at Shwe Kyet Yet for an evening at leisure. Enjoy traditional entertainment after your spectacular farewell dinner.

Please note
  • All timings are approximate and should be used as a guide only
  • The rivers of Myanmar vary from season to season, with as much as a 30ft variance in water level. From January through June, the Ayeyarwady’s levels may drop, creating a narrower channel for navigation. To allow for these changes, Belmond Road to Mandalay may operate a revised itinerary and mooring locations may be amended.
