Itinerary

01

Mandalay

Guests arriving on our group flight visit the Sagaing Hills en-route to the ship, home to hundreds of monasteries and nunneries.

Check in at Belmond’s private jetty in Shwe Kyet Yet village, before the ship sets sail during lunch.

In the afternoon disembark for an excursion to Mandalay, visiting historic sites and learning about traditional Burmese arts.

Toast the sunset with a champagne cocktail at the U Bein Bridge. Dine on a selection of Asian and Western dishes in the elegant Restaurant.

02

Ava

Combine an early yoga session with a refreshing drink from the Healthy Juice Bar for a revitalising start to the day.

Participate in an early almsgiving ceremony at a small pagoda before experiencing the bustle of the village near our jetty.

The ship then sails to Ava, where you alight for a tour of the ancient capital. Choose to explore by horse and cart. Alternatively opt for a guided or independent bike ride.

Spend the afternoon sailing to Bagan and enjoy a range of onboard activities. These include a lecture on Myanmar culture, a demonstration of how to tie a longyi, and a fortune-telling session with an astrologer.

03

Bagan

Relax at an early meditation session in the Observation Lounge.

Today is spent in Bagan, where over 3,000 ancient temples and pagodas cover the sun-baked plains beside the Ayeyarwady River.

The morning excursion allows guests to select from a variety of tour options. “Introduction to Bagan” examines the temples and history. “A Day in the Life” explore local culture, food and markets. “Bagan by Bicycle” is perfect for those seeking a little more action, and can be conducted with a guide or on your own.

Before lunch stroll through the small village that is home to Belmond’s private jetty near Old Bagan. Visit the Belmond Free Clinic where our onboard doctor is busy treating patients.

This afternoon visit Ananda, one of Bagan’s most magnificent temples, then explore a rarely visited pagoda by torchlight. End the day watching the sun set over the plains.

Dine under the stars on the Observation Deck at our Road to Mandalay Grill. A traditional marionette performance rounds off this memorable day.

04

Bagan

Experience one of the highlights of Bagan—a hot-air balloon flight over the pagodas at sunrise. This exceptional experience is available at an additional supplement.

Embark on a full-day excursion to Mt Popa, around two hours outside of Bagan. This sacred mountain is considered home to the 37 Nat spirits. Stop at a toddy palm plantation along the way, discovering how they produce sweet jaggery and a potent alcoholic spirit.

Climb the 777 steps to the top of Mt Popa, or spend some time exploring the village below. Lunch is served at a nearby resort which boasts exceptional vistas of the surrounding area.

Return to the ship in the late afternoon for some time at leisure. You may wish to have a walk through the charming little village located near our jetty.

05

Bagan

Start the day with the morning adventure of your choice. Explore the temples of Old Bagan by bike or horse-and-cart, take a sunrise temple tour or visit a village community project. Alternatively set off on a spellbinding hot-air balloon ride, available at an additional supplement.

A range of onboard activities are available as the ship sails towards Mandalay, whether listening to a cultural lecture or indulging in the spa. Relax by the pool on the Observation Deck or work out in the gym. Sample local infusions and delicacies in our Burmese Tea Shop, and learn how to dress in a traditional Myanmar sarong.

This evening a gourmet dinner is served on board.

06

Mingun

During the morning’s sailing take part in a range of activities, such as a sunrise yoga session, a meditation class or a Myanmar cookery demonstration. Enjoy a presentation by our onboard doctor as he discusses his local community projects.

Arrive in Mingun and choose from two fascinating tours. Discover the nearby historical sites with our guide or join a walk through a rural village, engaging with the locals.

In the evening you are invited to wear a traditional sarong to our vibrant Longyi Cocktail Party on the Observation Deck.

07

Shwe Kyet Yet

Spend the day on an excursion into the mountains and the former colonial hill station of Maymyo (Pyin Oo Lwin). Board a traditional horse and carriage for a ride around the town. Look out for the striking colonial architecture visible in many of the country cottage homes.

Visit the vibrant local markets and enjoy a stroll through the National Kandawgyi Botanical Gardens.

Return to the ship berthed at Shwe Kyet Yet for an evening at leisure. Enjoy traditional entertainment after your spectacular farewell dinner.

08

Shwe Kyet Yet

An early-bird breakfast is served before you disembark from Belmond Road to Mandalay for your onward travel arrangements.

Please note

  • All timings are approximate and should be used as a guide only
  • The rivers of Myanmar vary from season to season, with as much as a 30ft variance in water level. From January through June, the Ayeyarwady’s levels may drop, creating a narrower channel for navigation. To allow for these changes, Belmond Road to Mandalay may operate a revised itinerary and mooring locations may be amended.

Our Best Available rate is subject to availability at time of booking, it is not applicable for parties of 12 or more. Please contact tcgroupsuk@belmond.com for group pricing.
