Every Thursday at Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao, the staff set out on tuk tuks to collect trash, waste and discarded plastic to help keep Luang Prabang clean and unpolluted.
Deemed ‘Green Thursday’, this private initiative is the first of its kind in the area, as residents and businesses can rarely afford to pay for private trash collection. In addition to collecting litter, the staff also take time to speak with Lao people and tourists, to raise environmental awareness and maintain the beauty of the local surrounding.
The Luang Prabang Government Orphanage School serves a population of 500 children. Despite the support they obtain from the government the needs of the children far exceed the aid they receive.
Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao is committed to finding new ways to improve the lives of these children. We regularly provide blankets, books, pencils, food and drink to the centre, as well as organising monthly activities to bring some fun into the children’s lives. We strive to create work opportunities by offering hospitality internships to the older children.
All of this is possible thanks to volunteers from the hotel staff and management, but more importantly through the individual donations made by guests of Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao.
