Two impressive arts come together in Enchanted Riviera,
Belmond El Encanto’s exclusive own-label wine Article | 11 January 2019

When Belmond El Encanto decided to create a custom-blend wine for guests at the Santa Barbara hillside retreat, they chose their collaborators carefully.

First, the wine experts. The team paired up with Sunstone Winery, an organic, family-run vineyard in the California Winelands. Here, they worked closely with esteemed winemaker, Bion Rice, to capture the powerful terroir of the region. The result: a delicious 2017 cuvée blending Sunstone’s estate-grown Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Mourvèdre.

Swirl and breathe in aromas of fresh blackberries, sage and violet, complemented by warm French vanilla, cedar and menthol. Take a sip to be rewarded with an opulent mouthfeel; flavours of Washington apples, baking spices and black cherries.

More of a white fan? You won’t have long to wait for Charming Vista, our second custom-blend launching by this spring.

The artistry didn’t stop at the wine. To fashion a distinctive label, Belmond El Encanto worked with local charity Youth Interactive in partnership with GO Campaign. They enlisted young abstract art fan, Jack Miles, to create the artwork, with celebrated local artist James-Paul Brown as his mentor.

JACK'S FAVOURITE VIEW
For inspiration, Jack visited Belmond El Encanto several times. He took in the ambience, textures, charm and colour palette of the resort on the vibrant American Riviera, a place where deep-blue sea, red-roofed whitewashed buildings and dramatic mountain backdrops combine in magical vistas. He pinpointed his favourite view from the zero-edge swimming pool, where a grassy knoll overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Veering away from his abstract-art comfort zone, he conjured up the rich panorama you see on the label.

A CREATIVE FUTURE
When you buy a bottle of Enchanted Riviera, five dollars will be donated to GO Campaign for the benefit of Youth Interactive, to help creative but underserved young people like Jack find enriching work. “Youth Interactive means a lot to me,” he says. “It’s a safe place where I know I can always feel free to express myself. I’m able to meet important people in the community and expand my skills to become a better person.” The young artist hopes to find a job that will enable him to utilise his talents while giving back to the community.

“Collaborating with Sunstone Winery, GO Campaign and Youth Interactive are the perfect match for Belmond El Encanto,” explains Colleen Huther, General Manager of Belmond El Encanto.

“Being a strong advocate for sustainability, we appreciate the environmental preservation and organic growing inherent at the winery. In addition, most of our local community outreach efforts focus on youth – the future stewards of our planet.”
