Conceived by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, it pairs pared-back elegance with carved marble, decorative plaster and painted details. Plush furnishings create a sanctuary of comfort, while antique pieces evoke adventurous sea voyages under San Giorgio’s protection.

The Baronessa Suite is the Splendido’s crown jewel. It is named after Baronessa Von Mumm, the courageous noblewoman who saved Portofino from destruction in World War II. Glasgow-born Jeannie, widow of a German diplomat, resided in the medieval Castello San Giorgio when, in 1945, enemy forces were instructed to destroy Portofino and its harbour. German-speaking Jeannie confronted the Commander in charge, telling him the plan was an atrocity that would come back to haunt him. His army retreated north, and Portofino was saved. In recognition, Jeannie was made an honorary citizen of Portofino.
Guests of the suite are exclusively invited on a one-hour tour following in the footsteps of the Baronessa. Leading through the village, it takes them to her castle and the cemetery where she is commemorated as “the Saviour of Portofino” before culminating in a cocktail at DaV Mare on the Piazzetta.
