15 October 2013 - New for the 2014 season, the Belmond Royal Scotsman is set to journey between the iconic cities of Edinburgh and London on an itinerary exploring the very best of England and its famous cities and sights, including Sandringham House, Alnwick Castle and the scholarly city of Cambridge.
The new three-night Majestic England departs Edinburgh on 11 August and 8 September 2014 and takes the UK’s only luxury sleeper train through quintessential England, showcasing the best scenery, critically acclaimed cuisine and private tours of some of the country’s most famous locations.
The train has the lure of a luxury country house party, accommodating just 36 guests in beautifully appointed en-suite cabins. The Observation Car is the ideal spot to sit back, relax and take in the views and retreat to after dining in the restaurant cars and taste some of the varied whiskies from the Bar, including the train’s exclusive collection.
Stopping first at Alnwick Castle for a private tour of the home of the Duke of Northumberland and the Percy family for over 700 years, the Edwardian-style decadent carriages continue west across the rolling North Yorkshire Moors and visit the historic city of York before arriving in Norfolk. An exclusive private drinks reception at Sandringham House and Estate, private residence of Her Majesty The Queen, follows a leisurely stroll around the stunning grounds before re-joining the train for dinner and dancing on the mid-Norfolk Railway line near the peaceful town of Dereham.
From Norfolk, the journey continues south towards the English capital and stops en route in Cambridge, home to one of the world’s most famous universities. Guests can try punting along the River Cam and take a peek at the 31 colleges, a farewell evening takes place before arriving the following morning.
Leaving London on 14 August and 11 September, the train returns to Scotland on a one-night special journey which can also be extended for travel on a Classic four-night itinerary, avoiding the need to fly to Edinburgh and travel in luxurious style. The four-night itinerary combines private tours to local distilleries and stately homes with exquisite food, scenery and cosy cabins.
In addition to the existing journeys offered throughout the season, a new four-night Classic Golf Tour has been introduced to the schedule departing Edinburgh on 18 May and 22 September 2014. Golf enthusiasts will be able to practice their swing at three of Scotland’s most prestigious and beautiful courses, Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart, home to the Scottish Open for three consecutive years, and finally Cruden Bay.
For the ultimate golf experience, an additional three-night stay at Gleneagles Hotel & Spa is available, offering the chance to play on the championship courses which will host the 2014 Ryder Cup. Back by popular demand, the Classic Whisky, Country Homes and Gardens and the Grand Tour of Britain will complete the trips on offer throughout the 2014 season.
Prices start from £900 per person for the one-night journey from London to Edinburgh and from £3,400 per person for the brand new Majestic England Tour in 2014. All journeys aboard the Belmond Royal Scotsman are offered on a fully inclusive basis.
A two-night stay can also be arranged at The Goring Hotel London before or after either journey priced from £420.00 per person on a bed and breakfast basis.
