NAPASAI GETS BACK TO NATURE WITH AUTHENTIC NEW EXPERIENCES

4 October 2013 - Napasai on Koh Samui, Thailand, has unveiled a range of authentic touches designed to give guests a true taste of Southern Thailand’s enchanting culture. From home-produced honey to a Thai boxing ring, visitors can immerse themselves in the local way of life during their stay.

Set in a lush grove of cashew and palm trees and boasting the largest private beach in Koh Samui, Napasai combines natural beauty and luxury living into one perfect paradise escape where the verdant green forest meets the tropical sea. Native culture is very much a part of the Napasai experience and the many locals who work at the hotel delight in sharing their Napasai’s restaurant, Lai Thai, is committed to serving cuisine made with the freshest ingredients, including fish sourced daily from local anglers.

Continuing this theme, the hotel has planted an organic garden in the grounds, where homegrown fruit, vegetables and herbs are freshly picked every day. Guests can also harvest produce including papaya, star fruit, tomato, pumpkin, lemongrass, Thai basil and ginger from the garden before preparing fragrant local cuisine during a cooking lesson.

Visitors with a sweet tooth can enjoy honey from five new honeycombs tucked away in Napasai’s 20 acres of forest. The delicious nectar is used in restaurant dishes such as breakfast pancakes and Magret of Duck with a Honey and Orange Crust, as well as spa treatments including the Honey Foot Wrap. As well as bees, Napasai’s lush woodland is home to a petting farm of goats, pigs, ducks and chickens. Children staying at the hotel can stroke and feed the animals and collect Napasai also serves organic produce from further afield and is one of only 14 properties in the world to offer Black Ivory Coffee, an exclusive beverage that is only available in selected five-star hotels. This uniquely processed coffee is made from 100% Thai Arabica cherries naturally refined by Thai elephants, which digest the beans to remove the bitterness and impart more fruit. Eight percent of Black Ivory Coffee sales are donated to the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation. Only 300kg of the coffee was produced in 2013, and at Napasai guests can watch as the coffee beans are ground at the table before them and brewed in a colonial- style machine.

Encouraging visitors to try local pursuits as well as cuisine, Napasai has unveiled a Thai boxing ring in the grounds where guests can take private lessons. Also known as Muay Thai, Thai boxing is an essential part of Thai culture that is thought to have originated in Indo-China 1,000 years ago, and its health benefits include increased stamina, muscle tone and flexibility. The hotel also offers an evening excursion to a Thai Boxing stadium, where guests can watch professionals engage in the martial art.
