    Press Release

6 January 2014 – Fans of the “No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” have another chance to explore Botswana with Alexander McCall Smith as the acclaimed author accompanies his second Belmond Safaris group from 24 – 30 November 2014. Following the success of Alexander’s first expert-led journey last year, the itinerary has been extended to six nights and will now encompass three luxury lodges: Belmond Eagle Island Lodge, Belmond Khwai River Lodge and Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge.

With each lodge located in a completely different ecosystem, guests are guaranteed a diverse experience of the great unspoilt wilderness of Botswana. Their unforgettable journey begins at Belmond Eagle Island Lodge in the magnificent Okavango Delta, which featured in Alexander’s detective novel “Double Comfort Safari Club” and children’s tale “Precious and the Mystery of the Missing Lion”. Here guests will experience a mind-blowing flight over the plains in an open-sided helicopter.

Next stop is Belmond Khwai River Lodge, overlooking vast floodplains in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve. This was the first luxury camp in Botswana to introduce night vision binoculars, which guests can take on thrilling evening game drives following hunting predators. The safari ends at Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge in the heart of Chobe National Park, perched on the banks of the Savute Channel with an elevated view of the river, where herds of elephants roam the plains.

Throughout the safari, Alexander will share memories of his beloved Botswana and chat with fellow travellers about the inspiration for his books. With a maximum of just 12 guests, this is an unmissable opportunity to get to know one of the world’s best-loved novelists while exploring the spectacular setting of much of his work.

Last year marked the 15th anniversary of the publication of the first “No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency” novel and the latest book in the series, “The Minor Adjustment Beauty Salon”, is out now. More information can be found at www.alexandermccallsmith.co.uk.

“Journey to the Heart of Botswana with Alexander McCall Smith” is priced from £4,249* based on two people sharing. For more information or to make a booking, please visit belmond.com/safaris.
