HOUSING
There is housing to fit an array of budgets, lifestyles, needs and
preferences for rural versus town; secluded and wooded areas versus a home
on the golf course; traditional apartment living versus rental homes; independent
living versus senior apartments or care center.
This list goes on and on,
but one thing is certain, the pride of Belmond residents is apparent in the
care they take in their homes. Belmond’s housing stock is in excellent condition.
The real estate market is moving with the average home staying on the market
just days. The average cost of a home in 2000 was $60,630. The vacancy rate
is roughly 8%. Of the roughly 1210 housing units in Belmond, 82% are
owner occupied. The remaining units, 18% are rental units available for monthly
costs of $210-$780. The age of housing is impressive: 47% was built before
1960;50% was built between 1960 and 1990; with the last 3% built since 1990.
The last 9 homes constructed in Belmond were built in a new subdivision called
Dumond Estates. A total of 40 lots were platted in Dumond Estates by the
Belmond Housing Council in conjunction with the city constructing the infrastructure.
